Halo 3: Building a Legendary Identity. Designing for a universe bigger than life.
OVERVIEW
As Brand Designer for Halo 3, I helped bring visual consistency and storytelling depth to one of the most beloved franchises in gaming history.
Through style guides, soundtrack art, and merchandise design, we built a visual system that kept the Halo universe feeling massive, mysterious, and unmistakably unified — across every touchpoint, from game menus to collector notebooks.
It was world-building, but with grids, textures, and a lot of love for the fans.
KEEPING A UNIVERSE ALIGNED
The Halo Universe Style Guide was built to make sure every texture, logo, and color across the franchise stayed true to the story’s depth and emotion.
It created the backbone for a consistent visual identity — one that felt vast, distinctive, and unmistakably Halo.
Our mission was simple: protect the brand, strengthen the connection with fans, and make sure every piece of design, from marketing to media to merchandise, spoke the same epic language.
SOUND AND FURY IN EVERY PIXEL
Designing the Halo 3 Original Soundtrack packaging meant capturing the emotion of the game — dark, ominous, and full of mystery.
We pulled from original Halo 3 concept art and live in-game captures, layering them with richly textured backgrounds to stay consistent with the legacy of previous Halo soundtracks while pushing the atmosphere even deeper.
It looked the way the music felt: big, bold, and beautiful.
SKETCHING OUT THE UNIVERSE
The Halo 3 notebook was part field guide, part fan dream.
We loaded the first section with schematics for weapons, vehicles, characters, and species ranks.
The rest of the notebook was filled with Halo-themed octagrid paper for sketching, note-taking, and mapping out legendary ideas.
We even tucked in a calendar — both real-world dates and fictional timeline milestones from the Halo story.
